Set up Bynder libraires in BrandIn

Modified on Tue, 18 Aug at 12:53 PM

This article explains how to use Bynder as a source for BrandIn asset libraries. Once configured, administrators can link Bynder’s asset bank and collections directly to BrandIn.

Overview

To get started using Bynder in BrandIn, the following steps are required:

  1. Create an OAuth application in Bynder.
  2. Create a Bynder connector in BrandIn.
  3. Add a Bynder library to BrandIn.

Once set up, users can browse, search, and insert Bynder assets directly from BrandIn.

1. Create a Bynder OAuth application

Before connecting BrandIn, you must create an OAuth application in Bynder.

ℹ️
You must have Administrator (Heavy user) access in Bynder to complete this step.  Learn more.
  1. Log in to Bynder.
  2. Go to Advanced settingsPortal settings from the top-right settings (⚙) menu.
  3. Click OAuth apps in the left-hand panel, followed by Add new app or Register new app.
  4. Configure the app with the following settings:
    • Application name: Give your application a useful name, such as BrandIn.
    • Integration: Choose any descriptive category for the integration, like Document creation (Other).
    • Integration name: Give your integration a descriptive name, such as BrandIn integration.
    • Grant type: This controls how you want your users to authenticate with your Bynder-hosted locations. Select one of the options and follow the configuration for each below.
Authorization code & refresh token: Each user will have to log in using their Bynder credentials. Use this if you want to enforce Bynder’s user-specific permissions in BrandIn.
      Authorization redirect URIs: https://app.brandin.space/api/dam/callback

Client credentials: Choose a single Bynder user for authentication. No user needs to enter credentials, and each user sees the same content. It’s recommended that you create a dedicated user for this integration type.
Assigned user: Select a user account. The selected user’s permissions will be used.
Set HTTP access control (CORS): app.brandin.space
    • Scopes: The asset:read and collection:read scopes are required. Tick both scopes before registering the application. These scopes allow read access to assets and collections.
  5. Create the application by selecting Register application.
  6. Copy the Client ID and Client secret from the OAuth app. This will be required to set up the connector in BrandIn.

ℹ️
Keep the Client secret secure. Do not share it publicly or include it in screenshots or documentation.

2. Create a Bynder connector in BrandIn

ℹ️
You must be a BrandIn administrator or an M365 administrator to complete this step.

Once the OAuth app is created:

  1. Go to the BrandIn admin center and log in.
  2. Navigate to Integrations.
  3. In the available integrations section, select Set up Bynder.
  4. Configure the connector:
    • Name your connector.
    • Insert your Bynder domain (e.g. https://company.bynder.com).
    • Match the Authentication grant type to your OAuth app.
    • Paste the Client ID & Client secret (from Bynder OAuth app).
  5. Once configured, select Validate authentication to ensure that everything is configured correctly.
  6. Select Create to finish.

3. Add a Bynder asset library

After the connector is configured, you can add Bynder asset bank and collections to BrandIn.

ℹ️
You must be a BrandIn administrator to complete this step.

Start asset library setup in workspace settings.

  1. Go to the home screen of the workspace where you want to add the library.
  2. Select the Edit button next to the workspace name to open workspace settings.
  3. Go to Asset libraries.
  4. Select Add library. You’ll then be guided through the following steps.

3.1. Choose where your assets are stored

You can link collections or the entire asset bank from Bynder. Choose Bynder as the source of the library.

3.2. Link your assets location

  1. Open Bynder and go to the asset bank (A) or any collection (B) you want to link as a library.
  2. Copy the location's link from the browser’s address bar.
  3. Return to BrandIn and paste the link into the input box.

3.3. Give your library a name

The name is only visible in BrandIn. It won’t change anything in Bynder.

3.4. Choose a library type

Each library type is designed for specific types of assets, with different behaviors and default views. Some library types hide certain file formats. Learn more about library types.

3.5. Finish setup

Your library is added to the workspace home screen. Any changes to assets in the linked location also appear in BrandIn.

How Bynder libraries work in BrandIn

  • BrandIn reads assets and collections directly from Bynder.
  • Libraries behave like standard BrandIn asset libraries.
  • Images get automatically optimized for PowerPoint use on insertion.

Tips

  • Use collections to curate smaller, targeted asset sets.
  • If assets don’t appear, check Bynder permissions, OAuth app, and scopes.
